Vote to pass a bill that requires "just cause" when firing teachers in Connecticut.

Highlights:

• Establishes the following criteria for a teacher to be removed from their position (Sec. 1):

• Inefficiency, incompetence, or ineffectiveness;

• Insubordination against the board of education;

• Moral misconduct;

• Disability;

• Elimination of the position; or

• Other just cause.

• Requires superintendents to provide teachers a written notice of consideration of contract termination, as well as a statement of reasons for such consideration (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the designation of an impartial hearing officer chosen by the teacher and the superintendent in the case of a hearing following the requested termination of contract (Sec. 1).
