Title: Prohibits Social Media Use by Minors
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits social media use by minors in Texas.
Prohibits individuals under the age of 18 from using any social media platform in Texas (Sec. 2).
Defines “social media platform” as an internet website or application that is open to the public, allows users to create accounts, and enables users to communicate with other users for the purpose of posting content (Sec. 1).
Requires that social media platforms verify that an individual attempting to create an account is at least 18 years old (Sec. 2).
Authorizes parents to request the removal of their child’s social media account (Sec. 2).
Requires social media platforms to fulfill a parent’s request to have their child’s account removed within 10 days of receiving the request (Sec. 2).
Specifies that a violation of the provisions of this bill is considered a deceptive trade practice (Sec. 2).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect September 1, 2025 (Sec. 4).
