Title: Prohibits the Importation, Transportation, and Possession of Certain African Wildlife Species and Products
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the importation, transportation, and possession of certain African wildlife species and products in New York.
Establishes the Big Five African Trophies Act, relating to foreign game, in New York (Sec. 1).
Prohibits any individual or corporation from importing, transporting, or possessing any part or product of the skin or body of the following animal species (Sec. 2):
African Elephant;
African Leopard;
African Lion;
Black Rhinoceros;
White Rhinoceros; and
African Giraffe.
Specifies the following exemptions to the provisions of this bill (Sec. 2):
The part or product was obtained before this bill takes effect;
The part or product is used for a museum exhibit and will not be sold, traded, or distributed to any private party afterwards; or
The part or product is legally inherited by any individual and was originally obtained before this bill takes effect.
Authorizes search warrants for any law enforcement officer if they believe an individual possesses parts or products in violation of the provisions of this bill (Sec. 2).
Specifies that any terms of imprisonment for a violation of the provisions of this bill may not exceed 2 years (Sec. 3).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect one year after its passage (Sec. 4).
