Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the use of certain animals in traveling animal acts in New York.

Highlights:

• Amends provisions of the Environmental Conservation Law related to prohibiting the participation of certain animals in traveling animal acts in New York (Sec. 1). 

• Defines a “traveling animal act” as any performance that involves animals being transported to, from, or between locations for such performance (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that the prohibited animals under the provisions of this bill include all of the following (Sec. 1):

• Wild cats, including lions, tigers, and leopards;

• Kangaroos;

• Non-human primates, including monkeys, apes, and baboons;

• Bears; and 

• Wallabies.

• Prohibits any individual from being involved in traveling acts involving the specified prohibited animals (Sec. 1). 

• Prohibits the department from issuing licenses or permits that would allow for the participation of any of the prohibited animals in a traveling animal act (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall not apply to a performance that takes place at a non-mobile location (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies a violation of these provisions as punishable by a civil penalty of no more than $1,000 (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect December 31, 2026 (Sec. 2).
