Vote to pass a bill that expands the public health code to include midwives who attended midwifery programs to participate in the state health department's Essential Health Provider Repayment program in Michigan.

Highlights:

• Amends the Public Health Code to authorize midwives to be included in the Essential Health Provider Repayment Program in Michigan (Sec. 2701).

• Requires the state health department to administer a repayment program from designated professionals who have incurred debt or expenses as a result of attending medical school, dental school, a mental health professional program, a nursing program, or a midwifery program (Sec. 2705).

• Amends the definition of “designated professional” to include physicians, registered nurses, dentists, physician assistants, designated health professionals, and midwives (Sec. 2701).

• Requires that midwives seeking to join the repayment program be licensed to engage in the practice of midwifery by an accredited program (Sec. 2701).
