Vote to pass a bill that establishes certain policies on patients who are giving birth, prohibiting hospitals from discriminating against a patient on the basis of their pregnancy in Michigan.

Highlights:

• Amends the public health code to prohibit hospitals from discriminating against a patient on the basis of their pregnancy in Michigan (Sec. 20201).

• Modifies certain provisions related to policies on patients giving birth to require that a health facility or agency stabilize a patient in labor before terminating the relationship with the patient (Sec. 20201).

• Requires hospitals to establish a policy that allows patients who are giving birth to have, at a minimum, the following present with them during the duration of their stay in the hospital (Sec. 21538):

• Their partner, spouse, or a companion; and

• A doula.

• Specifies that the policy shall include a process for receiving patient information during a transfer of care for a pregnant patient (Sec. 21538).
