Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Oklahoma Nuclear Energy Feasibility Study Act of 2025 regarding promoting nuclear energy generation in Oklahoma.

Highlights:

• Establishes the Oklahoma Nuclear Energy Feasibility Study Act of 2025 (Sec. 1).

• Requires the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to begin working with a consulting firm to conduct a feasibility study on promoting nuclear energy generation (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that the Corporation Commission must begin engaging with an outside consulting firm within 90 days of the passage of this bill (Sec. 2). 

• Specifies that the feasibility study shall consider all of the following (Sec. 2):

• The advantages and disadvantages of nuclear generation in Oklahoma;

• The environmental impact of nuclear generation;

• Ways to maximize the use of workers and materials in the construction of nuclear energy generation facilities;

• Evaluations and recommendations on specific designs, land criteria, safety criteria, and engineering costs;

• A socioeconomic assessment and impact analysis;

• A timeline for development;

• A review of previous studies on the potential impact of nuclear energy generation; and

• Assessments and recommendations of policies that may be needed to support the adoption of nuclear energy generation.

• Requires the Corporation Commission to give a written report on the feasibility study to the Governor, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House within 9 months of the effective date of this bill (Sec. 2).

• Appropriates $375,000 to the Corporation Commission to compensate the consulting firm (Sec. 3). 

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill are immediately necessary and shall take effect upon passage and approval (Sec. 4).
