Vote to amend and pass a bill that expands cancer care coverage, including benefits associated with cancer diagnoses, for first responders in Iowa.

Highlights:

• Extends and expands retirement contributions and benefits associated with cancer diagnoses for first responders in Iowa (Sec. 2). 

• Requires an amount equal to a first responder’s compensation to be paid to the fund each fiscal year (Sec. 4). 

• Amends and modifies previous provisions of this bill to increase the “applicable employee percentage”, defined as 40% of the required contribution rate for first responders, each fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025 (Sec. 2). 

• Amends and modifies previous provisions of this bill to expand the definition of “cancer” included in this coverage from 14 types to all other cancers (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill are of immediate importance and shall take effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 5).
