Vote to amend and pass a bill that amends provisions pertaining to the maintenance and publication of the statewide voter registration file in South Dakota.

Highlights:

• Amends provisions pertaining to the maintenance and publication of the statewide voter registration file in South Dakota (Sec. 1-4).

• Requires the county auditor to maintain and safeguard a digital master registration file that contains the following information, including (Sec. 1-4):

• The information from the voter registration card of each individual registered to vote in the county;

• The date of the last election at which the individual has voted;

• The date when the individual's voter information was last updated; and

• Any application made by an individual to vote by absentee ballot, including:

• The mailing address listed on the absentee ballot application form;

• The absentee ballot requested on the application;

• The date the absentee ballot was requested;

• The date that the absentee ballot was returned; and

• The method of absentee voting used by the individual.

• Prohibits any information obtained from the statewide voter registration file or any county voter registration file from being sold and specifies violations as a Class 1 misdemeanor (Sec. 5).

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately following passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 5).
