Highlights:

  • Prohibits an employee or independent contractor of a school district or charter school to knowingly address, identify, or refer to a student under the age of 18 by either of the following unless the school district or charter school receives written permission from the student's parent (Sec. 1):

    • A pronoun which differs from the pronoun that aligns with the student's biological sex; or

    • A name, other than the first or middle name that is listed on the student's official school records, exempts common nicknames which the student is commonly associated with the student's name on record.

  • Prohibits any school district or charter school from requiring an employee or independent contract to address, identify, or refer to a person by a pronoun which differs from their biological sex if doing so would be against that employee or independent contractor’s religious or moral convictions (Sec. 1).
