Vote to pass a bill that requires the Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings be incorporated into future standards of school curriculum in South Dakota.

Highlights:

• Requires the Board of education standards to provide curriculum and coursework which incorporates the Oceti Sakowin Essential understandings and provides an opportunity for elementary and secondary students to focus on the history, language, culture, and heritage of the nine Indian tribes in this state (Sec. 1).

• Requires that the board shall consult with the South Dakota Indian Education Advisory Council to meet the requirements for this section (Sec. 1).
