Vote to pass a bill that requires school board candidates disclose their party affiliation when they declare their candidacy in South Dakota.

Highlights:

• Prohibits a candidate for elective membership on the board of a school district who does not reside in that school district from running for office; unless the business manager of the school district nominates them (Sec. 1).

• Requires the candidate to include a formal declaration of candidacy,  and party affiliation which is listed on the candidate's voter registration card unless (Sec. 1):

• Enlisted member of South Dakota National Guard; or

• Member of the armed forces.

• Requires petitions be filed no later than 5 P.M. on the Friday 39 days before the date of the election (Sec. 1).

• Requires the business manager to verify that the candidate is a resident voter of the school district and the petition contains the minimum number of signatures (Sec. 1).
