Vote to pass a bill that prohibits weapons in hospitals that provide mental health services in Virginia.

Highlights:

• Prohibits the possession of weapons in hospitals that provide mental health services or developmental services in Virginia (Sec. 1). 

• Establishes a Class 1 misdemeanor for any individual who knowingly and intentionally possesses any of the following in a hospital that provides mental health services or developmental services, including any emergency facilities (Sec. 1):

• A firearm;

• A knife with a blade over 3 ½ inches; or

• Other dangerous weapons, such as explosives or stun weapons.

• Requires that the provisions of this bill are posted at the public entrance of any hospital (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that an individual shall not be convicted of the offense if the required notice is not posted, unless the individual was otherwise notified of the prohibitions (Sec. 1).
