Title: Prohibits the Misbranding of Any Cell-Cultured Protein Product
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the misbranding of any cell-cultured protein product in South Dakota.
Prohibits the misbranding of any meat food product including if it contains any cell-cultured protein and does not clearly state prominently the words “cell-cultured” or “lab-grown” in South Dakota (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the proper labels of the cell-cultured protein must be of uniform size and prominence and must be immediately adjacent to the name of the food (Sec. 1).
Defines “cell-cultured protein” as a product that is produced for use as human food, made wholly or in part from cell culture or the DNA of a host animal, and grown outside a live animal (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall not apply to the process of embryo transfer in livestock (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 2).
