Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the misbranding of any cell-cultured protein product in South Dakota.

Highlights:

• Prohibits the misbranding of any meat food product including if it contains any cell-cultured protein and does not clearly state prominently the words “cell-cultured” or “lab-grown” in South Dakota (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the proper labels of the cell-cultured protein must be of uniform size and prominence and must be immediately adjacent to the name of the food (Sec. 1). 

• Defines “cell-cultured protein” as a product that is produced for use as human food, made wholly or in part from cell culture or the DNA of a host animal, and grown outside a live animal (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall not apply to the process of embryo transfer in livestock (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 2).
