Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the criminal extradition of doctors or other healthcare professionals to another state for providing services that are legal in the Virginia.

Highlights:

• Specifies a “protected health care activity”  as receipt, attempted provision or receipt, or assistance or attempted assistance in the provision or receipt of any health care that is lawful in the Commonwealth by a health care provider licensed under the laws of the Commonwealth and physically present in the Commonwealth. (Sec. 1).

• Requires the demand for extradition by another state for a “ protected health care activity” to be ignored by the Governor, unless it is also a crime in the state and authorizes the Governor to ask for the factual and legal basis for the extradition. (Sec. 1)

• Specifies individuals who committed the act in the state and then fled to the Commonwealth be returned to that state if the governor agrees, unless they affirm under oath they were present in the Commonwealth when the act occurred (Sec. 1).
