Vote to pass a bill that prohibits carrying assault-style weapons in public areas such as sidewalks, streets, and parks in Virginia.

Highlights:

• Prohibits an individual from carrying any of the following on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, right-of-way, park, or any other public area (Sec. 1):

• A semi-automatic center-fire rifle with a fixed magazine capacity over 10 rounds, silencers, or folding stocks;

• A semi-automatic shotgun with detachable magazines and features like pistol grips, grenade launchers, or suppressors;

• A semi-automatic shotgun with features like folding stocks, pistol grips, or fixed magazine capacity over 7 rounds; or

• A shotgun with a magazine that will hold more than 7 rounds.

• Specifics that the provisions of this bill shall not apply to law-enforcement officers (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies any person violating the provisions of this bill is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor (Sec. 1).
