Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the manufacturing or sale of unserialized firearms (ghost guns) in Virginia.

Highlights:

• Prohibits any individual from knowingly manufacturing or assembling, purchasing, selling, transferring, or possessing any plastic firearm or any firearm that, after removal of all parts other than a major component, is not detectable as a firearm by commonly used detection devices (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies detection devices include X-ray machines used in airports, government buildings, schools, correctional facilities, or other locations that require security screening (Sec. 1). 

• Defines a “major component” as the slide, cylinder, frame, or receiver of the firearm, or the barrel of a rifle or shotgun (Sec. ). 

• Establishes a Class 5 felony for any violation of this provision (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the portions of this bill prohibiting the purchase or possession of plastic or undetectable firearms shall take effect on January 1, 2026, while the portions of this bill prohibiting the purchase or possession of a firearm, frame, or receiver without a valid serial number shall take effect on July 1, 2026 (Sec. 1).
