Highlights:

  • Amends, lays out, and defines certain terminology in school codes in Michigan beginning July 1, 2026 (Sec. 1308c).

  • Requires the standardized response terminology described in this bill to include, at a minimum, both of the following (Sec. 1308c):

    • Direction concerning terminology that should be utilized by public schools, nonpublic schools, and local law enforcement agencies in response to certain situations that occur in or at a school building operated by the public school or nonpublic school; and

    • Direction concerning the use of a color-coding system to indicate when the terminology described in this bill should be in use at a public school or nonpublic school.

  • Defines “school building” as a building intended to provide instruction for pupils, including an addition to an existing building or a recreational or athletic structure or field to be used by pupils (Sec. 1308c).

  • Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 1308c).
