Highlights:

• Requires a hospital to adopt certain policies for patients who are giving birth in Michigan by January 1, 2026 (Sec. 21567).

• Requires hospitals to provide the Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs information that they have a policy in place to support patient protection and ensure that a patient can bring their doula, spouse or companion with them during labor (Sec. 21567).

• Defines “doula” as an individual who provides nonclinical  physical, emotional, and informational support to an individual who is pregnant before, during, and after the individual's pregnancy (Sec. 21567).
