Vote to pass a bill that prohibits "grooming" and creates a criminal offense for a "pattern of conduct" with a minor in Ohio.

Highlights:

• Prohibits "grooming" and creates a felony criminal offense and a civil penalty of up to $2,500 (Sec. 1).

• Defines grooming as an adult engaging in a “pattern of conduct” with a minor that would cause a reasonable adult to believe that the adult has a purpose to entice, coerce, solicit, or prepare the minor to engage in sexual activity (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that individuals found guilty of a grooming offense are required to register with the childhood sexual abuse civil registry and extends the statute of limitations period for prosecuting violations indefinitely (Sec. 1).

• Requires grooming offenses to be included in an individual's criminal record and appear on employer background checks (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 2)
