Title: Amends and Appropriates Funding for Area Education Agencies (AEA)
Vote to pass a bill that amends and appropriates funding for area education agencies (AEA) in Iowa for increases to teacher salaries and to raise pay for education support personnel costs.
Amends and appropriates $4.6 billion in funding for area education agencies (AEA) in Iowa, including (Div. I-IV, Sec. 1-34):
$3.8 billion to fund Iowa’s public K-12 schools at a per-pupil basis a 2.5% increase in state supplemental aid funding; and
$14 million to raise pay for education support personnel.
Reduces AEA funding by $32.5 million and transfers oversight and supervision employees to now be under the Department of Education’s Division of Special Education (Div. I-IV, Sec. 1-34).
Reduces an additional $7.5 million for annual salary reductions (Div. I-IV, Sec. 1-24).
Appropriates an additional $2 million in allocations for the Department of Public Safety, including funding for a task force on the “rise of illegal immigration and related criminal conduct” including (Div. I-IV, Sec. 1-34):
Drugs; and
Human trafficking.
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Div. V, Sec. 36).
