Vote to pass a bill that requires school officials and employees to stay neutral on certain viewpoints and restrict certain vital discussions in school, including those about gender identity and sexuality in Utah.

Highlights:

• Requires school officials and employees to stay neutral on certain viewpoints and restricts certain discussions in school, including, but not limited to the following, such as (Sec. 1): 

• Religious, denominational, sectarian, agnostic, or atheistic belief or viewpoint;

• Political viewpoint;

• Viewpoint regarding sexual orientation or gender identity; or

• Invite, suggest, or encourage a student to reconsider or change their:

• religious, denominational, sectarian, agnostic, or atheistic belief or viewpoint;

• political viewpoint; or

• sexual orientation or gender identity.

• Specifies that nothing in this bill shall prohibit an individual school official from the following, including (Sec. 1):

• Wearing religious clothing, jewelry, or accessories that are central to the individual's sincerely held religious belief;

• Displaying personal photographs;

• Displaying the flag of the United States of America, the state, or another nation or state that is related to the relevant approved curriculum; and

• Discussing an age-appropriate topic or displaying an age-appropriate image or symbol that is a component of the relevant approved curriculum.

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect July 1, 2024 (Sec. 2).
