Title: Authorizes Child Support Orders for Children over 18 with a Disability

Vote to pass a bill that authorizes Child Support for individuals over 18 who have a disability in Ohio.

Highlights:

  • Defines a person with a disability (Sec. 1). 

  • Specifies that when issuing or modifying a court child support order, a court may provide for the care and maintenance of  child who is a person with a disability, to be issued or continue after the date the child reaches the age of 18 (Sec. 1)

  • Specifies that nothing in this act automatically requires the issuance of a child support order (Sec. 1).

  • Repeals previous language concerning child support orders (Sec. 1). 

  • Specifies that a court child support order shall not remain in effect after the child reaches nineteen years of age unless the order provides that the duty of support continues under circumstances for any period after the child reaches age nineteen (Sec. 1).
