Vote to pass a bill that prohibits health insurers from denying coverage for inhalers in Illinois.

Highlights:

• Prohibits health insurers from denying coverage for prescription inhalers in Illinois (Sec. 5).

• Defines “prescription inhalers” as a prescribed medical device that delivers inhaled medications used to treat breathing for persons suffering from asthma or other life-threatening bronchial ailments, including (Sec. 5):

• Metered-dose inhalers, 

• Nebulizers; and 

• Dry powder inhalers. 

• Exempts inhalers available over the counter without a prescription and provide temporary relief from respiratory symptoms from the aforementioned definition (Sec. 5).

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall become effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 5).
