Title: Establishes the Louisa Carman Medical Debt Relief Act
Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Louisa Carman Medical Debt Relief Act in New Jersey.
Prohibits consumer reporting agencies and medical debt collectors from making reports on medical debt of less than $500 (Sec. 3).
Prohibits medical creditors and medical debt collectors from taking any collection action on medical patients who agree and comply with a reasonable payment plan (Sec. 4).
Prohibits medical creditors and medical debt collectors from charging more than 3% interest per annum on medical debt, and allows a grace period of 90 days for late payments (Sec. 4).
Prohibits medical creditor or debt collector from garnishing the wages of patients, or placing a lien on their primary residence or personal property, whose income is less than 600% of the federal poverty level (Sec. 4).
