Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that requires vehicles made with a 2030 model in California to have a passive intelligence speed assistance system installed to alert drivers of the speed limit and their own driving speed with visual and audio cues.

Highlights:

• Amends the definition of passive intelligent speed assistance as a system that “determines the speed limit of the roadway that the vehicle is traveling on” by using a short signal to alert the driver each time they exceed the speed limit over 10 miles per hour (Sec. 1A). 

• Exempts manufacturers from implementing the following, including (Sec. 1C):

• Providing alternative types of feedback like vibrations or pedal resistance to the driver; 

• Providing repetitive signals or warnings when the driver exceeds the speed limit as noted in Sec 1.A; 

• Providing additional warnings to the driver if they are traveling 10 miles per hour slower than the speed limit or if they are traveling 10 miles per hour over the speed limit; 

• Adding additional warnings that differ from the ones noted in the subsection above; 

• Amends this section to include all vehicles sold as new and manufactured buses (Sec. 2817A). 

• Exempts purchased or sold emergency vehicles (Sec. 28172).
