Vote to pass a bill that establishes a funding mechanism for Mississippi Public schools.

Highlights:

• Establishes the Mississippi Student Funding Formula for the purpose of funding of public education (Sec. 1). 

• Defines terms related to funding for public schools (Sec. 1). 

• Requires that the state board of education to provide a proposed base-student cost (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that the instructional cost shall be calculated by dividing the average teacher salary by the student-to-teacher ratio (Sec. 1). 

• Establishes various weights to be applied to the base amount for students who are low-income students, are english language learners, eligible for special education, are gifted, and other specific students  (Sec. 1). 

• Requires student enrollment and attendance figures to be determined on the basis of net enrollment (Sec. 1).
