Vote to adopt a conference report that authorizes certain charter schools in North Carolina to elect to become a participating employing unit in the State Health Plan.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes the Board of Directors for the following charter schools to elect whether to become a participating employing unit in the State Health Plan, including (Sec. 1):

    • NC Leadership Academy;

    • Alpha Academy;

    • Durham Charter; and

    • United Community School.

  • Authorizes any privately-owned or municipality-operated charter school to elect to become a participating employing unit in the State Health Plan with an election no later than two years from the date that the charter is signed, or with an election later than two years from the date that the charter is signed after filing an application with the Board of Trustees and getting approved (Sec. 2).

  • Increases the monthly payment for firefighters, rescue squad workers, or members of the Pension Fund that are members of the board from $10.00 to $15.00 (Sec. 3).
