Title: Amends the Membership, Powers, Duties and Procedures of the Commission on Forensic Science
Vote to pass a bill that amends the the membership, powers, duties and procedures of the commission on forensic science and establish new programs.
Specifies that a forensic laboratory may contract with a state or local law enforcement unit (Sec. 1).
Specifies that forensic laboratories will have the duty of using physical, chemical, digital, or biometric properties of evidence or data to determine the connection of evidence or data to a criminal action or to resolve issues of identity pertaining to criminal investigations or surveillance (Sec. 1).
Defines terms related to forensic science (Sec. 1).
Establishes the commission on Forensic science and specifies its membership and duties to the state regarding best practices in scientific forensics (Sec 1).
Establishes 3 advisory committees to the commission on science, social justice, and forensic analyst licensing committee and specifies their tasks and duties (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the commission will meet and evaluate and update the system of accreditation every 5 years to reflect changes in science, technology, or other factors affecting minimum standards, forensic laboratory management and oversight (Sec. 1).
Repeals previous language on accreditation (Sec. 1).
