Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that establishes new discount programs for veterans in the state of New York.

Highlights:

• Requires gas corporations, electric corporations or municipalities to establish a discount program for veterans no later than ninety days after the implementation of this act (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that this program shall include a yearly benefit to veterans in the form of a 10 percent discount on utility bills (Sec. 1). 

• Requires that gas and electric corporations advertise these programs (Sec. 1). 

• Defines veteran (Sec. 1). 

• Requires that a primary named utility service account holder shall provide the gas corporation,  electric  corporation  or municipality an authenticated copy of such account holder's discharge papers to be eligible for such discount (Sec. 1). 

• Requires a similar program be established for water corporations with a similar requirement for when it goes into effect (Sec. 1).

• Requires another discount program be established for telecommunications companies (Sec. 1).

• Requires another discount program be established along similar lines for cable companies (Sec. 1).
