Title: Requires the Department of Transportation Plant Vegetation Native to Pennsylvania
Vote to amend and pass a bill that requires the Department of Transportation to plant vegetation that has been identified as being native to Pennsylvania.
Requires the Department of Transportation to plant vegetation that has been identified as being native to Pennsylvania and will thrive in the plant hardiness zone and under the environmental conditions of the highway right-of-way (Sec. 1).
Authorizes the department to use nonnative vegetation where the use of native vegetation is not feasible as long as the nonnative vegetation is not a federally listed invasive species identified by the United States Department of Agriculture National Invasive Species Information Center or a noxious weed or controlled plant (Sec. 1).
Defines "plant hardiness zone" for this bill as a zone existing in this Commonwealth as identified in the most recent edition of the 2012 Plant Hardiness Zone Map published by the United States Department of Agriculture (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 2).
