Vote to pass a bill that increases success rates of 9th-grade students in public high schools in Colorado and reduces various appropriations.

Highlights:

• Establishes a 9th-grade success grant program and includes, the use of grant money, appropriation, report, rules, definitions, and repeals (Sec. 1). 

• Authorizes the general assembly to allocate two million dollars annually from the state education fund to the department under this section (Sec. 1A). 

• Authorizes the department to receive funding from the state education fund under this section (Sec. 1B). 

• Exempts any one-time technology-associated costs in the fiscal year 2024-2025 under this section (Sec. 1C). 

• Requires the office to report to the general assembly, state board, and governor and exemption to 3-year expiration (Sec. 2).  

• Requires public schools, school districts, charter schools, and the state as a whole reports to include the number and percentage age of first-time 9th-grade students who at the end of the year have (Sec. 2I). 

• Not earned more than four core credits; 

• Have failed one or more core credits; 

• Have been disaggregated by race, ethnicity, gender;

• English language learner students;

• Have an individualized education program;

• Requires all public schools, school districts, and charter school institutions to comply with federal and state laws regarding privacy (Sec. 2B).
