Title: Prohibits the Sale of Stolen Goods on Online Marketplaces
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the sale of stolen goods on online marketplaces by requiring that third-party sellers be certified, and bans sellers suspected of criminal activity from operating through online marketplace platforms in California.
Defines “high-volume” quality seller as a seller that makes transactions utilizing an online marketplace (Sec. 1749.8).
Requires an online marketplace to establish and maintain a policy prohibiting the sale of stolen goods and create a way to notify the marketplace of the sale of stolen goods (Sec. 1749.8.9).
Requires an online marketplace to alert law enforcement agencies in California of the sale of stolen goods from third-party sellers (Sec. 1749.8.9).
Expands recovery and relief for violations of the section to a civil action brought by a district attorney, a city attorney, or a county counsel (Sec. 1749.8.4).
Establishes an effective date of July 1, 2025 (Sec. 1
