Title: Federal Prison Oversight Act
Vote to pass a bill that establishes an inspection regime for the Bureau of Prisons (BOP).
Establishes an inspection regime for the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) (Sec. 2).
Requires the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General to conduct risk-based evaluations of BOP facilities (Sec. 2).
Specifies that an inspection of a facility may be announced or unannounced and that higher-risk facilities shall receive more frequent inspections (Sec. 2).
Establishes within the DOJ and Ombudsman who may receive complaints, make inquiries, recommend actions, and decline to investigate or take action as specified (Sec. 2).
Prohibits BOP retaliation against any person or entity that has instituted or caused to be instituted any proceeding, investigation, or inspection under this bill (Sec. 2).
Requires the ombudsman to coordinate with the BOP to educate incarcerated people, their representatives, and the public about the existence and functions of the ombudsman (Sec. 2).
